The excitement continues to build
in preparation for the release of HOUSE ATREIDES. In many theaters around
the country, promotional slides were shown to audiences awaiting the premiere
of STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE. This fall, the slides will appear in theaters
again, as well as TV ads on the Sci-Fi Channel and MTV.
New DUNE Short Story
Brian and Kevin have written an original DUNE short story, set during the events of Frank Herbert's original novel. "A Whisper of Caladan Seas," the first new DUNE fiction to appear in 15 years, will be published in the July issue of Amazing Stories. The story takes place during the Harkonnen attack on Arrakeen.
Translation rights have already sold to French and Polish science fiction magazines.

HOUSE ATREIDES Sells to Major Book Clubs
In October, HOUSE ATREIDES will be featured as a main selection of the Science Fiction Book Club, and an alternate selection of the Literary Guild and the Doubleday Book Club.
DragonCon Celebrates DUNE
The world's largest annual science fiction convention, DragonCon, will focus this year's event on DUNE and HOUSE ATREIDES. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson will be guest authors at the convention, speaking on panels, signing autographs, and hosting a special round of the DUNE role-playing game. Exclusive (collector's edition) excerpt booklets and special HOUSE ATREIDES bookplates will be given to all DragonCon attendees.

HOUSE HARKONNEN
Kevin and Brian have completed a rough draft of the second volume in the PRELUDE TO DUNE trilogy, HOUSE HARKONNEN. At 866 pages, this is the longest novel either writer has ever completed. They are currently editing and polishing the manuscript, and will begin work on volume 3, THE SPICE WAR, early next year.
HOUSE ATREIDES Excerpt
An excerpt from HOUSE ATREIDES, "The Flight of Duncan Idaho," will appear in the November issue of Playboy, which hits the newsstands about a week before the novel is actually available. Not only does Playboy have a circulation of many millions each month, but also the magazine has a tradition with DUNE: Frank Herbert published an excerpt of GOD-EMPEROR OF DUNE there in 1981.
