DUNE TECHNOLOGY PART ONE: Shields and Lasguns

Though the Butlerian Jihad eliminated all forms of computer technology, the Dune Universe holds some very unique futuristic technologies. However, due to the Jihad, the absence of computers resulted in an extremely different technological evolution, causing such technology to be more centralized upon human interaction.
Outlined, major triumphs of Dune technology are as follows: no-ships, guild space heighliners, ornithopters, spice harvesters, carry-alls, ornithopters, personal shields, and lasguns.

Personal shields are energy based force fields which project an outward force from their wearer causing any objects that attempt to pass through to slow down considerably to non-lethal speeds. This is known as the Holtzman effect, the negative repelling force of a sheild. Similar to force fields--energy bubbles that let nothing to pass their barrier--personal shields do protect those who wear them, but when an attack is made in which the weapon is slowly and steadily inserted through the shield can be most dangerous. Larger scale sheilds are also employed to protect royal palaces or military bases at times.
An extreme draw back to personal shields on Arrakis is that Sandworms are invariably attracted by them. Personal shields give off a constant energy resonance frequency which is very mechanical and alien to natural phenomenon. This artifical projection of energy from the shield gives off vibrations which can be sensed by the Arrakis Sandworms--creatures which are well known for enveloping anything that is unnatural (even when crossing worm infested deserts, one must walk in a random and non-repetitive manner, otherwise worms are disturbed by the pattern and come to destroy its source).
Another tremendous disadvantage to personal shields is their susceptibility to lasguns. While normally, shields give very effective protection to most forms of physical attack, their is a very dangerous element inherent in the field generated by a field when it comes into contact with a lasgun discharge. Specifically, a lasgun is a continuous-wave laser projector which employs subatomic fusion to cause explosive pyrotechnics when its laser intersects a shield. The resulting explosion from this combination is very devastating, even at the smaller levels of personal shields. Because the lasgun is very inefficient in regular combat because its emition bursts are wavy streams that are extremely difficult to target, it is only used to disrupt shields.
