The Arrakis Sandworm

The worms of Arrakis are a truly extraordinary piece of imagination. Not unlike the reknown masterpieces of human fantasy such as the unicorn, the elf,and the centaur, the Dune sandworm captures the minds of all who experiences its dazzling movement. Known as Shai-Hulud, and then as "Shaitan" with the addition of scattered remnants of Leto II's consciousness, this beast roamed the vast Arrakis deserts, enveloping all unnatural things. As its mouth opens wide, rows upon rows of teeth shimmer in the moonlight as roaring from its belly blazes a searing conflagration of flames. With its prey swallowed whole by this relentless beast, it returns once again to the depths of the sandy sea.
